Huang Juan

Born in Chongqing in 1991, Huang Juan received her BFA (2013) and MFA (2016) from the prestigious Oil Painting Department of the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute.

Huang Juan employs creation as a method to consistently explore relationships of violence and their operational mechanisms, including symbols, myth construction, discipline, absurdity, and privilege. In her works, the combination of figurative and abstract elements revolves around the intent of narration. Some recurring improvisational symbols often appear in orderly, repetitive patterns, akin to a form of compulsive behavior, while abstract shapes frequently directly reference reality, carrying clear metaphorical functions.

Huang Juan's solo exhibitions include "It's All Over" (2022) at Organhaus Art Space, Chongqing, and "Variable Flow" (2016) at Hive Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing. Her work has been featured in notable group exhibitions including "Please Go to the Second Floor, Then the Third Floor" (2025) at Nòng Space, Guangzhou; "If the Ripple Could Tremble the Roof Ridge" (2025) at Third Street Gallery, Shanghai; and "T13" (2024) at Zhigu Space, Beijing. She has participated in the Organhaus-Düsseldorf City Cultural Bureau Artist Exchange Program in Düsseldorf, Germany.
